When Marcia joined the family she brought a killer recipe with her called Turtle Cake. It's become one of our favorite game time--or anytime--goodies. It's similar to a caramel brownie but with a few added ingredients that make it extra special. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do justice to its deliciousness.
Prepare cake mix according to directions. Add coconut to batter. Spread 1/3 of the batter in a greased 9 x 13-inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until no longer jiggly. While the bottom layer is baking, combine the caramels, milk and butter in a saucepan. Heat and stir until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. Pour caramel mixture over baked layer. Sprinkle on chocolate chips. Pour remaining batter over top and spread to the edge. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until cake tests done.
